SNL: Nick Jonas

TV

You know how life loves to do this thing where for a while nothing happens and then suddenly everything happens? Anyway, let’s see if I keep up this daily blogging thing for the last month of the arbitrary challenge I set for myself and shared with no one. Moving on!

Hosted and musical guest-ed (?) by Nick Jonas, who, depending on your perspective, is either the top tier or middle tier Jonas Brother (he’s middle), we found ourselves right back in middle tier SNL territory. Because I don’t feel like being mean right now, and, frankly, because I have other shit to do that I forgot about, let’s just talk about my favorite moments and ignore the rest! Is it gonna be a bullet point list again? You betchya!

  • Because in my heart of hearts I am still, deep down somewhere, a musical theatre kid, I loved when Nick Jonas, accompanied by Kate McKinnon, Cecily Strong, Kenan Thompson, and Beck Bennet, sang a parody “Drink with Me” from Les Mis in the opening monologue. To be honest, I’m here for a Les Mis parody any day of the week.

  • I have had “Murder Show,” sung by Chloe Fineman, Ego Nwodim, McKinnon, and Melissa Villasenor, stuck in my head all week, and I am apparently the exception that proves the rule of women liking murder shows. It was a really fun musical sketch!

  • McKinnon and Jonas starred in one of the final sketches of the evening about Post-Covid Dating, and was a hilarious nightmare about the future of myself and many others. They try to remember how to flirt, drink at a bar, and dance. A kitten is pulled out of a jacket, “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” becomes romantic, and other bizarre human interactions ensue.

  • My favorite sketch of the evening had to be “Mirror Workout,” because if we learned anything from some of my other favorite sketches of the season, “The Negotiator,” “Twins,” and, from the pre-blog days, “Tiny Horse,” I just love it when SNL lets itself get really, really weird.

Okay it’s past my bedtime and I still, sadly, have shit to do I am sorry for the drop in quality recently, but also, no one reads this! Sadly, SNL is on hiatus for the next couple of weeks, but they’ll be back on March 27 with veteran Maya Rudolph stepping in as the host, and I cannot wait to watch it and share my thoughts with you, my non-existent friends.
